What you need
A cone dripper such as a V60, the matching paper filter, a mug or carafe, a kettle, and a scale. A gooseneck helps, but a careful slow pour works too.
Brew one cup
- Fit and rinse the filter with hot water. Discard the rinse water.
- Add 15 g of coffee. Set the dripper on your cup and reset the scale.
- Start your timer and pour 40 g of hot water to wet the coffee. Wait about 30 seconds.
- Pour gently to 150 g. When the water level falls, add the rest to reach 250 g total.
- Let it drain, then remove the dripper. Around 3 minutes is a starting point, not a pass-or-fail test.
Adjust the next cup
If the cup is sour and drains very quickly, grind a little finer. If it is dry and bitter and drains slowly, try coarser. Your taste matters more than hitting an exact time.
Keep your water and coffee amounts steady while you work out the grind.
